Older people are socializing online
Social networking use among American internet users ages 50 and older has nearly doubled — from 22% to 42% over the past year according to a new report by Pew Internet. While social media use has grown dramatically across all age groups, older users have been especially enthusiastic over the past year about embracing new networking tools. Although email continues to be the primary way that older users maintain contact with friends, families and colleagues, many users now rely on social network platforms to help manage their daily communications — sharing links, photos, videos, news and status updates with a growing network of contacts.

FaceMod’s Facebook Dislike Button is Not Affiliated With Scam
Earlier this year, FaceMod, Inc launched its Facebook Dislike Button for free to Facebook users. Recently, the Dislike Button has been mentioned in several articles, blogs and tweets, in conjunction with a scam, which silently sends the link to users’ Facebook friends, and requires the user to then take an online survey, which makes money for the scammers. Due to the high demand for the Dislike Button, unaffiliated people and/or groups are attempting to monetize FaceMod’s products by re-directing to online surveys. FaceMod does not require a user to fill out a survey, is not affiliated with this scam and urges users to avoid unofficial posts.

Ninety per cent of Canadian organizations using social media
The vast majority of Canadian executives at large and mid-sized organizations say that social media has the potential to impact their corporate brand and as a result are placing more importance on its use. One in six says that social media is the most important means for their organization to engage the public about their brand; while 31 per cent say it plays a major role and 43 per cent say it plays a limited role. Just ten per cent of organizations don’t bother engaging in social media. These are some of the findings of a SAS/Leger Marketing survey of more than 1,000 Canadian executives conducted earlier this year.
