Nearly seven years after the release of Red Faction 2 for the Playstation 2, developer Volition is almost ready to offer the third entry in this series, named Red Faction: Guerrilla. Under construction on the PC, Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 platforms, it gives full meaning to the Geo Mod, this revolutionary technology allowing almost total destruction of the various environments.

In Red Faction: Guerrilla, the first-person view of the first two games make room for a third-person view. This choice of perspective helps to better appreciate the use of Geo Mod 2.0 - which implies mass destruction of the constantly changing scenery. Such a visual feast would not be observable as well with a so-called limited view (FPS). The main character, Alec Mason, must fight the Earth Defense Force (EDF) on the planet Mars as the organization now exploits miners for its own profit.

As a reminder, in the first Red Faction, the EDF was an allied force. The rebellion bursts and different "tools" are made available to the insurgent Alex Mason which will help him finish the fight: pistols, submachine guns, grenades and rocket launchers are part of the arsenal at his disposal. He can also steal means of transport including cargo, robots and more. Red Faction: Guerrilla will be released on June 9 2009 in the U.S. territory. A demo is already available for those who pre-ordered the videogame from retailer GameStop.
