The new Websense Hybrid Email Security solution offers organizations a layered hosted and on-premise messaging security system that provides inbound threat protection "in the cloud" with minimal administration and significant bandwidth savings, as well as deep content inspection of outbound e-mails with the granular control of on-premise software. Specifically, Websense Email Security software provides inspection of e-mail messages and attachments, ensuring that outbound e-mail does not contain non-compliant content, while Websense Hosted Email Security blocks spam and viruses at the Internet level, preventing these threats from reaching the network, consuming bandwidth and storage space, and impacting business operations.
The new version of Websense Email Security (formerly known as SurfControl E-mail Filter) features a subset of compliance capabilities from Websense’s data loss prevention technology. Websense Email Security features more than 100 content and compliance dictionaries, augmented with additional compliance dictionaries from Websense Data Security Suite, and its industry-leading data loss prevention technology. The new compliance dictionaries and rule policies offer e-mail protection for both the healthcare and financial industries and include new policies addressing state data privacy laws and Payment Card Industry (PCI) standards.
"Through our successful integration strategy, we’ve delivered innovation to the messaging security solutions we acquired from SurfControl in October 2007, helping businesses of all sizes," said Leo Cole, vice president of marketing, Websense. "While customers that purchased these solutions from SurfControl will benefit from these enhancements, we’re also pleased to offer these new hosted, on-premise and hybrid deployment messaging security solutions to the Websense installed base and prospects."
Websense continues to roll out enhancements to its on-demand messaging security solution, Websense Hosted Email Security (formerly known as SurfControl MailControl). Just weeks following the acquisition of SurfControl, customers began benefiting from the combined threat intelligence from the two companies. Websense Security Labs™ has further integrated the threat intelligence gathered from Websense Hosted Security solutions — scanning more than 500 million e-mails per week for security threats — with Websense ThreatSeeker™ technology, which scans more than 600 million Web sites per week searching for malicious code. The joint technologies provide deep visibility into the evolving external threat environment and unique protection to Websense messaging customers — all in the cloud, before threats ever reach the corporate network and employee inboxes.
Industry-Leading Messaging Technology Provides Business Opportunities to Channel Partners
To enable channel partners, Websense has added new messaging resources, including new training and certification for both Websense Hosted Email Security and Websense Email Security, to Websense University, the company’s online training portal for channel partners. Websense is also offering channel partners new in-person training courses such as a two hour technical overview with certification exams, as well as new two-day instructor-led classes for Websense Email Security beginning in the second quarter of 2008.
"Compared to our experience with other vendors, Websense provides an avenue for channel partners to sell a holistic content security solution with solid margins," said Ken Hamilton, president and CEO of Total Tech, a Websense channel partner. "Websense’s continued investment and commitment to the channel — demonstrated by the new resources available to help us sell messaging security — gives us the ability to offer complete information protection to our customers."
