Brothers in Arms 3 on the front

The third entry in the popular Brothers in Arms series, Hell’s Highway, goes back to the trenches with these new images from the PC, Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 builds. The franchise has to thank its success due to a brilliant design choice in which the first-person shooter (FPS) genre is blended with real-time strategy. Developed by Gearbox Software, the game takes place yet again during World War II. Its visual quality can be attributed to the use of the Unreal Engine 3, the same used in million sellers videogames like Bioshock and Mass Effect.

In Brothers in Arms: Hell’s Highway, players assume the rôle of sergeant Matt Baker, former soldier of the 101st Airborne Division on duty while operation Market Garden takes place, in the last steps of the third Reich. Among the added functionnalities not seen in other entries to this series, players will be able to control specialised units like machine guns / mortar / bazooka teams or even a radio squad which can call for artillery fire support on the battlefield. Of course, Baker and his teammates will again be able to take cover behind objects scattered on the various maps. Ubisoft plans to ship Hell’s Highway sometime in 2008.
